PART 6 — THE TRUTH HIDDEN IN MY FAMILY BLOODLINE
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
The paper in my father’s hand trembled.
I had never seen Grant Whitmore look that frightened before.
Not when my grandfather exposed his company.
Not when his reputation collapsed.
Not even when he realized he could lose everything.
But this…
This was different.
“Dad?”
My voice came out quietly.
“What is that?”
My father didn’t answer.
His eyes stayed locked on the document.
Daniel smiled.
A cold, satisfied smile.
“Go ahead, Grant.”
“Tell her.”
My father slowly folded the paper.
“Daniel, leave.”
Daniel laughed.
“Still trying to protect her?”
He looked at me.
“That’s exactly what you always did, isn’t it?”
I looked between them.
“What are you talking about?”
Daniel leaned forward.
“Your father spent eighteen years hiding the truth from you.”
My father’s voice became firm.
“Enough.”
But Daniel ignored him.
“Olivia, do you know why your grandfather was so protective of your mother?”
I didn’t answer.
“Because the Hale family knew something Grant never wanted anyone to discover.”
My heart started beating faster.
“What?”
Daniel smiled.
“Your father’s success was never the only secret in this family.”
The room felt colder.
My father finally spoke.
“Don’t listen to him.”
But for the first time, I noticed something.
My father wasn’t angry.
He was afraid.
And that scared me more.
“Dad…”
I looked at him.
“What is he talking about?”
He looked away.
That was enough.
I already knew.
There was something he had never told me.
Daniel placed another document on the table.
“This proves everything.”
I picked it up.
My eyes moved across the page.
A legal agreement.
A confidentiality contract.
Signed by…
Eleanor Whitmore.
My mother.
I froze.
“Mom signed this?”
Daniel nodded.
“Before you were born.”
I looked at my father.
“What does this mean?”
My father closed his eyes.
For years, he had carried this secret.
And now there was nowhere left to hide.
“When your mother was pregnant with you…”
He stopped.
His voice cracked.
“She discovered something about the Hale family.”
I waited.
“She discovered that Walter wasn’t just a wealthy investor.”
“He was protecting a secret that could destroy everything.”
Daniel smiled.
“Now we are getting closer.”
My father looked at him with anger.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Daniel leaned back.
“I know more than you think.”
The tension between them filled the room.
I felt like I was standing in the middle of a storm that started before I was even born.
“What secret?”
I asked.
Neither man answered.
Then my father finally whispered:
“Your grandfather had another heir.”
I stared at him.
“What?”
Daniel’s smile widened.
“Yes.”
“The Hale family had another child.”
My hands went cold.
“But that’s impossible.”
Everyone knew my mother was Walter Hale’s only daughter.
Or at least…
that was what I believed.
My father looked at me.
“Your grandfather spent years hiding it.”
“Why?”
I asked.
His expression became painful.
“Because he was trying to protect Eleanor.”
Daniel interrupted.
“No.”
“He was protecting the Hale family name.”
I looked at Daniel.
“And how do you know all of this?”
For the first time, Daniel’s confident expression changed.
A small shadow crossed his face.
“Because I was there.”
My father stared at him.
“You knew?”
Daniel smiled.
“I knew before you did.”
The silence that followed was unbearable.
I looked at the two brothers sitting across from me.
Two men who had spent decades fighting.
Two men who knew secrets I never imagined existed.
Then my phone vibrated again.
Another unknown message.
This time, there was a picture attached.
My hands froze when I saw it.
It was a photograph of my mother.
A young Eleanor.
Standing beside a man I had never seen before.
And written beneath the picture were four words:
“Your real grandfather knows.”
I looked up.
My father had seen the photo.
And his face turned completely pale.
Because he knew exactly who the man beside my mother was.
And he knew the truth was much bigger than the company.
Much bigger than money.
Much bigger than revenge.
It was a secret that could destroy the entire Hale family.
