PART 15 — THE TRUTH THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
For several seconds, I couldn’t breathe.
The words Adrian spoke kept echoing in my mind.
“Your father never built Whitmore Building Supply.”
“He stole it.”
I looked at my father.
The man who had spent years teaching me that honesty mattered.
The man who told me success came from hard work.
The man who claimed he created an empire from nothing.
“Dad…”
My voice was barely a whisper.
“Is it true?”
My father looked at me.
And in that moment…
I saw something I had never seen before.
Not arrogance.
Not anger.
Shame.
He lowered his eyes.
That was the answer.
My heart broke.
Not because he had enemies.
Not because he had lost his company.
But because the one person I wanted to believe in…
had hidden the truth from me.
Adrian smiled.
“Now you understand.”
“Your father has spent eighteen years pretending to be a victim.”
“But the truth is much more complicated.”
I looked at him.
“And you?”
His smile faded slightly.
“What about you, Adrian?”
“You’re telling me my father is a liar…”
“But you spent years manipulating everyone too.”
For the first time, Adrian had no immediate answer.
Because it was true.
Everyone had their own secrets.
Everyone had their own reasons.
My father finally spoke.
“Olivia…”
“I made mistakes.”
I looked at him.
“Mistakes?”
My voice trembled.
“You built your entire life on a lie.”
He closed his eyes.
“Yes.”
“But there is something Adrian will never tell you.”
I looked between them.
“What?”
My father took a deep breath.
“I didn’t steal the company.”
“I protected it.”
The room went silent.
Adrian’s expression changed.
“You’re still lying.”
My father shook his head.
“No.”
“You were there.”
“You know exactly what happened.”
I looked at Adrian.
And for the first time…
he looked nervous.
My father continued.
“Eighteen years ago, Adrian and Alexander tried to take control of the Hale Trust.”
“They created fake documents.”
“They manipulated investors.”
“They wanted to destroy Walter’s legacy.”
“But they made one mistake.”
“What mistake?”
My father looked at me.
“They underestimated your mother.”
My heart tightened.
My mother.
Again.
“She discovered everything.”
“She found the evidence.”
“She stopped them.”
I looked at Adrian.
“And what happened after that?”
My father answered quietly.
“I took responsibility for the company.”
“Not because I wanted power.”
“But because someone had to protect it.”
I didn’t know what to believe anymore.
The truth was no longer black and white.
My father had lied.
But maybe not for the reasons I thought.
Adrian had helped reveal secrets.
But maybe not because he cared about justice.
And my grandfather…
maybe he had known all along that this day would come.
Then my phone vibrated.
A message from an unknown number.
One final message.
I opened it.
And my hands went cold.
It was a photograph.
A recent photograph.
Of my grandfather.
Walter Hale.
Standing alive.
Behind him was a date.
Yesterday.
My heart stopped.
That was impossible.
My grandfather had died three years ago.
I looked at my father.
He saw the picture.
And his face turned completely pale.
“Olivia…”
His voice shook.
“You can’t show anyone that.”
“Why?”
He looked at Adrian.
Then back at me.
“Because if Walter is alive…”
He swallowed.
“Everything we know about this family is wrong.”
The room fell silent.
Outside, the city continued moving.
People walked.
Cars passed.
Life continued as normal.
But my world had changed forever.
Because the truth I had spent weeks searching for…
was only the beginning.
My father’s empire.
The Hale family legacy.
The hidden enemies.
The forgotten secrets.
None of them were the final mystery.
The biggest question was still unanswered.
If Walter Hale was alive…
why had he let everyone believe he was dead?
And why…
after all these years…
had he finally decided to come back?
TO BE CONTINUED…
