PART 4: THE WARNING I NEVER EXPECTED
I thought I had the advantage.
I believed I was finally one step ahead of them.
I had the evidence.
I knew their plan.
And for the first time in years, I wasn’t the woman being deceived.
I was the woman holding the truth.
But I underestimated Sophie.
Because while I was carefully saving every document from the tablet, she was already moving in silence.
That evening, my phone rang.
It was an unknown number.
At first, I almost ignored it.
But something inside me told me to answer.
“Hello?”
For a few seconds, there was only silence.
Then a woman’s voice whispered:
“You need to stop looking into your husband’s files.”
My heart stopped.
“Who is this?”
The woman didn’t answer.
Instead, she said something that made my entire body go cold.
“They know you found out.”
The call ended.
I stared at my phone, trying to understand what had just happened.
How did they know?
I hadn’t told anyone.
I hadn’t confronted my husband.
I hadn’t even left the house.
Then I looked toward the tablet sitting on the table.
And suddenly, I realized something.
The tablet wasn’t just forgotten.
Maybe…
it was left there on purpose.
A trap.
I quickly checked the device again.
Hidden in the settings, I found something I hadn’t noticed before.
A remote access application.
Someone had been watching the tablet.
Watching everything.
Including me.
My hands trembled as I opened the activity log.
The last connection was made only ten minutes ago.
Someone had just accessed it.
And the location…
was from my husband’s apartment in Manhattan.
I felt a wave of anger replace my fear.
He wasn’t just lying to me.
He was watching me.
Controlling me.
Trying to make sure I never discovered the truth.
I immediately copied all the files to a secure drive and called my lawyer again.
But before I could explain everything, another message appeared on my phone.
This time, it was from Sophie.
“We need to talk. Alone.”
I stared at the message.
The woman who had betrayed me wanted a private meeting.
For a moment, I considered refusing.
But then I remembered something.
People who are afraid often reveal their biggest secrets when they think they are still in control.
So I replied:
“Tomorrow. Same place where you and my husband celebrated your little victory.”
Three dots appeared immediately.
Sophie was typing.
Then her reply came:
“You have no idea what you’re about to uncover.”
I looked at those words.
And I knew one thing.
This wasn’t just about an affair anymore.
There was something much bigger hidden behind the Manhattan Plan.
The next morning, I arrived at the restaurant.
Sophie was already waiting.
But she wasn’t alone.
Sitting beside her was someone I never expected to see.
Someone who had been missing from my life for years.
And when that person looked at me and said my name…
I realized my husband’s betrayal was only the beginning.
