PART 12 — THE PERSON BEHIND VICTORIA’S PLAN

For several seconds after Julian read those words…

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because the meaning was impossible to ignore.

Victoria was never the beginning.

She was only a piece.

A piece in a plan that had started decades before Julian and I ever met.

I looked at her.

For the first time, she didn’t look confident.

She didn’t look like the woman who had entered our lives with perfect timing, perfect words, and perfect promises.

She looked afraid.

And that fear told me everything.

“Victoria…”

Julian’s voice was quiet.

But everyone heard it.

She looked at him.

“What?”

He held up his mother’s letter.

“My mother knew about you.”

Victoria’s expression changed.

Only for a second.

But it was enough.

Julian noticed.

“You knew.”

She looked away.

“I knew there were people watching you.”

“That’s not what I asked.”

His voice became colder.

“You knew my mother.”

Silence.

The answer was written on her face.

I felt my stomach tighten.

Because after everything we had discovered…

This was the one truth nobody wanted to admit.

Victoria wasn’t just connected to Julian’s future.

She was connected to his past.

Julian took a step closer.

“How?”

Victoria swallowed.

“My family knew the Whitmores for a long time.”

“Your family?”

“Yes.”

She looked at Andrew.

“And your father knew that.”

Julian looked confused.

“My father knew your family?”

Andrew nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

The room became even more uncomfortable.

“How many people were involved in this?”

Julian’s question sounded almost exhausted.

Nobody answered.

Because the answer was terrifying.

Too many.

Too many people had known pieces of his life.

Too many people had made choices without him.

Andrew spoke.

“Your father wasn’t trying to control your entire life.”

Julian looked at him.

“But everyone else was.”

Andrew had no response.

Because that was true.

Julian looked down at the letter again.

“My mother wrote that someone was controlling everything.”

He looked at Andrew.

“Who?”

Andrew hesitated.

And that hesitation made my heart race.

“Andrew.”

He finally spoke.

“The person behind everything…”

A pause.

“Was someone who had access to both families.”

The room went silent.

“Both families?”

Andrew nodded.

“Someone who knew the Whitmores.”

He looked at me.

“And someone who knew the Calloways.”

My blood ran cold.

My family.

My father.

Julian’s family.

All connected.

But how?

I looked at Andrew.

“Who?”

Andrew didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he walked toward the table.

He placed an old envelope beside the photograph.

“This was found with your mother’s belongings.”

Julian stared at it.

“Why didn’t you show me this before?”

Andrew’s expression changed.

“Because I was afraid of what it would reveal.”

Julian opened the envelope.

Inside was a single page.

A handwritten note.

The handwriting was unfamiliar.

But the first sentence made everyone freeze.

“If Julian ever discovers the truth, he must never trust the person who claims to have protected him.”

Nobody spoke.

Julian read the sentence again.

Then again.

“Protected him…”

He looked up.

“Who?”

Andrew’s face became serious.

“I don’t know.”

That answer surprised everyone.

“You don’t know?”

“No.”

Andrew shook his head.

“Your mother never wrote the name.”

Julian continued reading.

The note became more disturbing.

“They will tell him they saved him. They will tell him they sacrificed everything for him. But the truth is they destroyed the only family he ever had.”

I felt a chill.

Because those words sounded familiar.

Too familiar.

Everyone in that room had used the same explanation.

They were protecting him.

They had no choice.

They did it for his own good.

But what if that was the biggest lie of all?

Julian lowered the paper.

“My mother knew.”

“Yes.”

“She knew someone close to us was lying.”

“Yes.”

“And she tried to warn me.”

“Yes.”

His eyes became darker.

“But nobody let me hear her.”

Andrew remained silent.

Then Victoria suddenly spoke.

“I didn’t know about this.”

Everyone turned toward her.

Julian looked at her.

“You expect me to believe that?”

“I’m telling the truth.”

She stepped forward.

“I knew your family had secrets. I knew there was something about your mother.”

Her voice shook.

“But I never knew she was alive.”

Julian stared at her.

“Then why did you come into my life?”

Victoria looked down.

And for the first time…

She looked ashamed.

“Because I was told to.”

The room froze.

Julian’s face changed.

“By who?”

Victoria didn’t answer.

“By who, Victoria?”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“I never met him.”

A pause.

“But I received instructions.”

My heart started racing.

“Instructions?”

Victoria nodded.

“Messages.”

“From whom?”

She looked at Julian.

Then whispered:

“Someone who knew everything about you.”

Julian’s hands tightened.

“Name.”

Victoria closed her eyes.

“I don’t know his real name.”

The room became silent.

“But everyone called him…”

She stopped.

Like even saying it was dangerous.

Julian stepped forward.

“Called him what?”

Victoria finally looked at him.

And said:

“The Architect.”

Nobody moved.

Because the name sounded impossible.

Not like a person.

Like a title.

Like someone who didn’t simply make plans.

Someone who designed them.

Andrew’s face turned pale.

“No…”

I looked at him.

“You know that name?”

He didn’t answer.

And that frightened me more than anything.

Because Andrew had always seemed prepared.

Always one step ahead.

But now…

He looked terrified.

Julian noticed.

“Andrew.”

Slowly, Andrew looked at him.

“Who is The Architect?”

Andrew took a deep breath.

Then he said the words that changed everything.

“The person who destroyed your family…”

A pause.

“Is the same person who built your empire.”

The room fell silent.

And suddenly, the biggest question was no longer who betrayed Julian.

The real question was:

What if the entire life Julian had built…

Was never truly his?
