PART 10 — THE WOMAN MY FATHER HID FROM JULIAN FOR DECADES
The photograph remained in Julian’s hands.
For almost a minute…
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
The entire room seemed frozen in time.
Because everyone understood what that picture meant.
The woman standing beside my father in that old photograph was not a stranger.
She was not a forgotten friend.
She was not someone from a distant chapter of Julian’s past.
She was the woman he had spent his entire life believing he had lost.
His mother.
The person Julian had been told was gone forever.
The person whose absence had created a wound he never allowed anyone to see.
I looked at him.
And for the first time, I didn’t see the billionaire everyone feared.
I didn’t see the man who built companies, signed impossible deals, and controlled entire rooms with a single sentence.
I saw a son.
A son who had just discovered that the foundation of his entire life was built on a lie.
Julian’s fingers tightened around the photograph.
“No…”
His voice cracked.
“That’s impossible.”
Nobody answered.
Because everyone knew.
This wasn’t a misunderstanding.
This wasn’t a mistake.
The proof was in his hands.
Julian slowly lifted his eyes toward Andrew.
“Where did you get this?”
Andrew remained silent.
That silence hurt more than any answer.
Julian took a step forward.
“You knew.”
Andrew looked down.
“Yes.”
The room filled with whispers.
Even Victoria looked shocked.
Julian stared at him.
“You knew my mother was alive?”
Andrew didn’t speak.
And that was the answer.
Julian’s face changed.
Not anger at first.
Something worse.
Pain.
Deep, unbearable pain.
“How long?”
Andrew closed his eyes.
“Twenty-seven years.”
The words destroyed him.
I watched Julian take a step back.
Twenty-seven years.
A child growing up without his mother.
A teenager learning to hide his emotions.
A man building an empire while carrying a loss nobody could heal.
All because someone had decided he wasn’t allowed to know the truth.
Julian laughed quietly.
But there was no happiness in that sound.
“Twenty-seven years…”
He looked at the photograph again.
“And you all knew.”
Nobody responded.
Because nobody could defend it.
I looked at Andrew.
“Why?”
My voice was trembling.
“Why would my father hide something like this from him?”
Andrew looked at me.
The sadness in his eyes made my heart sink.
“Because your father believed he was protecting Julian.”
Julian immediately turned toward him.
“Protecting me?”
His voice was filled with disbelief.
“You call this protection?”
He raised the photograph.
“You let me spend my whole life believing my mother abandoned me.”
“You let me hate a woman who never had the chance to explain herself.”
“You let me carry that pain.”
His voice broke.
“And you call that protection?”
Nobody spoke.
Because there was nothing anyone could say.
Andrew lowered his head.
“Your father made mistakes.”
Julian smiled bitterly.
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
He looked around the room.
“My father made mistakes.”
“Claire’s father made mistakes.”
“Victoria made mistakes.”
He pointed at himself.
“But somehow, I was always the one who had to live with them.”
The words hit harder than I expected.
Because they were true.
Julian had hurt me.
He had destroyed our marriage.
He had made choices that broke our family.
But now I was seeing another side of him.
A side that had been shaped by secrets long before he ever met me.
Andrew opened the folder again.
“There is something else.”
I closed my eyes.
Of course there was.
Another secret.
Another piece of a story my father had hidden.
“What now?” I asked.
Andrew looked at Julian.
“Your mother didn’t disappear.”
Julian looked at him.
“What?”
“She was forced to leave.”
The room went silent.
“By who?”
Andrew hesitated.
And that hesitation made everyone nervous.
“Your grandfather.”
Julian frowned.
“My grandfather?”
“Yes.”
Andrew placed another document on the table.
“Your family’s history was never what you were told.”
Julian slowly picked up the papers.
He scanned the pages.
Then his expression changed.
“What is this?”
Andrew answered quietly.
“Your inheritance.”
Everyone became silent.
Julian looked confused.
“My inheritance?”
“Yes.”
“The Whitmore family fortune was never destroyed.”
A wave of shock passed through the room.
“What are you saying?”
Andrew looked directly at him.
“I’m saying your family’s empire didn’t disappear.”
He paused.
“It was hidden.”
Julian stared at the documents.
The numbers.
The signatures.
The contracts.
Everything he was seeing contradicted the story he had believed his entire life.
His father wasn’t an ordinary man.
His family wasn’t ruined.
And Julian wasn’t just a self-made billionaire.
There had always been something waiting for him.
A legacy.
A fortune.
A truth buried beneath decades of lies.
But then Julian saw something that made the color disappear from his face.
A signature.
A name.
A name he recognized.
“No…”
His voice became almost silent.
I moved closer.
“What is it?”
He looked at me.
His eyes were filled with disbelief.
“My mother signed this.”
My heart stopped.
“What?”
Julian looked back at the document.
“She was alive when this was created.”
Nobody moved.
Because that meant one impossible thing.
His mother had not disappeared.
She had not abandoned him.
She had been trying to reach him.
Someone had stopped her.
Someone had hidden the truth.
And suddenly the question changed.
It was no longer:
Why did Julian’s mother leave?
The real question was:
Who made sure Julian never found her?
Andrew looked at the photograph one more time.
Then he spoke quietly.
“There is one more thing you need to know.”
Julian stared at him.
“What?”
Andrew’s expression became serious.
“The person who separated you from your mother…”
A pause.
“Was someone you trusted.”
The room went completely silent.
Because everyone understood what that meant.
The person who destroyed Julian’s childhood…
The person who erased his mother from his life…
Was not a stranger.
It was someone who had been standing beside him all along.
And for the first time…
Julian realized that the greatest betrayal of his life…
Had never come from an enemy.
It came from family.
